Claude agents propose two room-temperature magnetic semiconductor candidates

A Vals AI workflow using Claude Opus 5.5 agents designed one Luttinger-compensated semiconductor candidate and identified another material first synthesized in 1999. Density-functional calculations predict room-temperature magnetic order and spin-sorted band edges. Vals publishes inputs, raw outputs, analysis code, independent reruns and caveats, but neither candidate has experimental confirmation of the reported band gap and spin sorting.

What this means for you

For AI-for-science teams, this is a useful example of agents producing an auditable computational hypothesis rather than only prose. The result remains a simulation-led lead, not a validated materials discovery.

FRONTIER WATCH

Public artifacts and validated results are different.

The recorded fact is the public work and its artifacts. Author-reported outcomes do not establish independent reproduction. Next checks include usable code, task conditions and third-party validation.
