Flint 1.0 provides MIT code, an MCP server, interaction presets and public examples.
Microsoft open-sources Flint for agent-authored interactive charts
2026-10-19Verified announcementTRIAL
Microsoft Research released Flint 1.0 with an interactive layer for charts, dashboards and data stories authored by agents. The MIT-licensed project exposes semantic events and update operators while its compiler manages renderer-specific dependencies. It ships 52 chart types, 14 themes, 23 interaction presets, a JavaScript library and an MCP server.
What this means for you
For teams generating data products with agents, Flint moves interaction from fragile renderer code to a smaller semantic contract. The public code makes a same-day comparison against hand-written Vega-Lite or Plotly feasible.
